The pedestal of Elves Chasm Gneiss marks the beginning of the Trail of Time just west of
Yavapai Point; this section of the Rim Trail is marked off in one-meter-per-million-year increments with
each rock unit exposed by canyon dissection laid out in its proper place along the trail by its inferred age,
and offering a uniquely visual display of the immensity of time portrayed within Grand Canyon’s depths.
